Moments ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the official name for their next generation console. The console will indeed be called the PlayStation 5. The announcement came exclusivity through WIRED.
In addition, the console will feature ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware. Players will also get to install parts of the game they want to play to save SSD space. The PlayStation 5 controller will feature Haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Developers can program the resistance of the triggers. Sony didn’t announce the official name for their next generation controller but based on history, it’s safe to say that it’ll be called the DualShock 5. The console will also feature a revamped UI/Home screen.
The PlayStation 5 will also feature an optical drive and the physical games will hold up to 100GB of storage. This is great news for collectors and traditional gaming as a whole. Lastly Sony have confirmed a holiday 2020 launch for PlayStation 5. No information on price or launch line-up was given but that may well be shown at the full reveal.
